Eligible Groups
Students
Students are persons who are enrolled in, or have been accepted to, and have submitted intent to enroll in the following programs. Enrollment is verified through UCSF Registrar. Graduation, withdrawal, or dismissal from these programs terminates housing eligibility, unless the participant continues in another eligible UCSF affiliated category. UCSF Housing Services reserves the right to determine if an applicant is eligible.

Students who take a LOA (maximum 1 year) for a UCSF-related program that is integral to their academic curriculum will remain eligible for Housing up to their term limit. Examples: PRIME-US, Inquiry (SOM), Graduate Student Internships for Career Exploration.
PLEASE NOTE: “Students” who are visiting from other universities—and who are not enrolled via the UCSF Registrar’s office in one of the above programs should see the “Other Eligible Groups” section below.
Postdocs
Postdocs are persons who currently hold UCSF Postdoctoral Scholar positions, or have been offered positions to start within 60 days, in the following UCSF payroll titles, whether paid or unpaid. These titles must be verified through the employee payroll system for UCSF Postdoctoral Scholars. Postdoctoral scholars in affiliated programs (HHMI, Gladstone, NCIRE) are eligible with departmental verification of their postdoc status. Eligibility ends upon disaffiliation from these title codes, unless the participant continues in another eligible UCSF affiliated category. UCSF Housing Services reserves the right to determine if an applicant is eligible.

Faculty
The focus of the Faculty Housing program is to provide housing for the recruitment and retention of UCSF faculty members. Faculty housing is offered by the University to be a transitional help to faculty members as they search for off-campus housing. It is not intended as long-term or as “permanent” rental property.
Faculty appointments must be at least 50% paid FTE in any one of these eligible title codes, and verified through employee payroll (OLPPS). Eligibility ends upon disaffiliation from these title codes, unless the participant continues in another eligible UCSF affiliated category. UCSF Housing Services reserves the right to determine if an applicant is eligible.

Staff Employees
UCSF staff who are fully benefitted employees at UCSF are eligible for campus housing. UCSF Housing Services reserves the right to determine if an applicant is eligible. Staff applicants will receive housing offers once our student and trainee applicants have been offered/assigned spaces.
UCSF staff who meet the following criteria are eligible for housing:
1) Paid directly by UCSF
2) Active Employee
3) 50% or more effort, and intended employment term is at least 12 months.
Post-baccs employed by UCSF who are NOT registered in the student Registrar portal may apply as staff. Staff applicants will receive housing offers once our student and trainee applicants have been offered/assigned spaces. UCSF Housing Services reserves the right to determine if an applicant is eligible.
Staff employees may be subject to imputed income. See below for more details.
Other Eligible Groups
Applicants are verified with a letter from their department, stating their job title (and associated title code, if any), hosting department, supervisor’s name, and the start date of their program. Eligibility ends upon completion of the training program, unless the participant continues in another eligible UCSF affiliated category (see sections above). UCSF Housing Services reserves the right to determine if an applicant is eligible. Affiliates under this group qualify for Faculty/Staff rates at Academe at 198.
Other Eligible Groups are:
▪ Students in the ATCR (Advanced Training in Clinical Research) Certificate (non-credit program)
▪ Students visiting UCSF from other universities (APM-430)
▪ Participants in the National Clinical Scholars Program (NCSP) who do not otherwise qualify under an eligible UCSF title code
▪ Participants in the School of Nursing Special Studies program
▪ Postdoctoral fellows working at ATOM who do not otherwise qualify under an eligible UCSF title code
▪ Visitors and non-faculty academics who are working at UCSF in a laboratory or clinical setting (including APM-430)
▪ Residents in the AEGD or other affiliated program
▪ Student Health psychology counseling postdocs
▪ Resident ministers
▪ Term limits for living in UCSF-related housing are 5 years, cumulative in a lifetime, regardless of university affiliation or break in occupancy. After being a resident in any combination of UCSF-owned or UCSF-leased properties for 5 years in a lifetime, the resident will be required to move and find alternative housing accommodations. Time living as an additional occupant on someone else’s agreement is not counted toward this 5-year occupancy limit.
▪ Any changes to eligibility status during the Agreement term will be reviewed. Residents may be deemed ineligible if disaffiliating from UCSF. Transferring to a different eligible UCSF affiliated category may have an impact on monthly housing fee rates. Examples include students who become staff, or clinical fellows who become faculty.
▪ Housing residents can remain in their units for up to 30 days after graduation, disaffiliation, or a change in UCSF affiliation status.
