What is a Green Champion?
A Green Champion is an individual who wants to drive change to help make UCSF Health a more sustainable organization. Green Champions are an extension of the Office of Sustainability at the unit level, helping to bridge the Zero Waste team and unit staff.
Who should become a Green Champion?
Anyone who is passionate about sustainability! Whether you already practice zero waste in your personal life, or you simply want to help your unit perform better, becoming a Green Champion is the perfect next step.
What does a Green Champion do?
A Green Champion is a point of contact for fellow unit members when they have questions about practicing sustainability at UCSF. The UCSF Health Office of Sustainability will provide resources and training for all Green Champions so they feel prepared to help their coworkers. This includes proper waste sorting techniques, how to perform waste self-audits, information on where to send medical donations, and when e-waste drop off events take place. Green Champions will also be sent unit report cards based on the waste audits that the Office of Sustainability performs, and will share the findings with their team to offer correctional feedback or encourage them to keep up the good work. Since Green Champions will be trained on proper waste sorting, they can also train new staff on sorting best practices when necessary.
