Bike Enclosures

Bike enclosures are open to everyone with a UCSF bike permit and are for day use only. Store your locks overnight on the lock docks. There are a variety of locks and rack styles to accommodate all types of bikes and electric scooters.

Lock stuck or key broken? Call us for lock-cutting services. Learn more here. Plus, we can even help get you home in an emergency through our Emergency Ride Home program for alternative transportation users.

UCSF and UCOP Launch E-Bike Discount Program

UCSF and UCOP are excited to launch an e-bike purchase discount program that provides UCSF students, faculty, and staff with a significant discount on select e-bike models available from four vendors - Letric, Ride1Up, Velotric, and Dirwin Bike. These approved vendors offer compact/foldable, commuter, and cargo models with the UC discounts ranging between 15% and 60%. You can explore all eligible models and learn more about accessing your discount at this website.

UCSF Transportation recognizes the UCSF community’s growing interest in bicycling as a healthy and sustainable commute option. This discount program will help increase the adoption of e-bikes and further, our goals outlined in the UCSF Bike and Micromobility Plan. It highlights our commitment to providing more climate-conscious mobility options with affordability and equity in mind.

By 2035, UCSF will expand with a new hospital and academic research building at Parnassus Heights. The University strives to keep healthcare accessible and grow as responsibly as possible, building sustainable practices into all UCSF operations, including how people travel to and from our campuses. It is this commitment – coupled with an imperative to provide a world-class environment for the UCSF commuters that already ride a bike or scooter – that led to the creation of UCSF’s first Bicycle and Micromobility Plan. The plan helps the university manage anticipated growth at UCSF campuses and as people continue to return to campus and evaluate their commute options.

Tips to prevent bike theft

Please be aware of the following steps you can take to help prevent bike theft.

Close the bike enclosure door behind you
Do not allow entry to others
Everyone must scan their own ID badge for entry
Lock your frame (U-lock or heavy NYC chain) and secure your wheel

Report unauthorized entry, suspicious activity, or a stolen bike to:

Emergency Ride Home

We'll get you home in an emergency, if you travel by sustainable modes.

We understand that emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere. When they happen while you’re at work, the UCSF Employee Emergency Ride Home program makes sure you’re covered. All UCSF employees who commute by sustainable modes are eligible to participate.

Emergency Ride Home Program (ERH) Guidelines

Eligible Participants

You're eligible for an emergency ride home, if you traveled to work by public transit, carpool, vanpool, bicycle or walking, and you have an emergency.

Qualifying Emergencies

You suffer an illness, injury, or crisis
Your immediate family member suffers an illness, injury, or crisis
You have a break-in, flood, or fire at home
You are asked by a supervisor to work unscheduled overtime, supervisor verification will be required, which causes you to miss a planned ride home
Your carpool or vanpool vehicle breaks down to or from work
Your carpool driver has to leave early or late and you are left without a ride home
You are a vanpool driver and have to leave early or late, you will request an ERH reimbursement and the vanpool back-up driver will drive the vanpool members home that day
Your commute bicycle breaks down on the way to or from work and cannot be repaired at your work site

Reimbursements

Travel expenses (on the day of the emergency only) -- up to $50 per trip, up to four trips per year -- eligible for reimbursement include:

Taxi (not including driver tip)
Lyft or Uber (not including driver tip)
One-day car rental (not including gas)
Public transportation (includes BART, Muni, etc.)

To submit a request, complete the ERH reimbursement request online and email your receipt, within 10 days of the emergency. Once approved, eligible expenses will be reimbursed via UCSF payroll.

Bike Parking Policies

Bicycles brought on campus must be parked in designated bicycle parking areas only, those parked in enclosures, lockers, and interior rooms must display a UCSF permit.
Bicycles parked in non-designated areas are subject to removal and impoundment.
Bicycles may not be stored in secured areas and will be tagged for removal and impoundment if they are not moved for a consecutive 7-day period.
Bicycle locks may not be attached to storage racks unless they are securing a bicycle. Locks not securing bicycles will be tagged and removed.
Bicycles that are impounded will be held for 90 days and the owner of record, if known, will be notified by email. Owners may reclaim bicycles from Transportation during this time with appropriate identification. Thereafter, the bicycle shall become the property of the University. A $50 storage/impound fee will be required to reclaim the bicycle out of impoundment.
