League Policies
Forfeit Fee
Teams will be assessed a $25 forfeit fee if they fail to appear for a scheduled game, cancel with less than 24 hours' notice, or do not have the minimum required number of players present by the end of the designated grace period. In the event of a forfeit, the opposing team will be awarded the win.
The $25 forfeit fee must be paid within 7 days of the scheduled game. Repeated forfeits or no-shows may result in removal from the league schedule. Teams are strongly encouraged to communicate any scheduling conflicts as early as possible to help avoid forfeits.
Two Teams Equal Records
1. Team who won head-to-head is higher seeded.
2. Record vs. top-seeded team(s)
3. Spirit of the Game: The team with the higher S.O.G. score will receive a higher seed.
4. Forfeits: A team that has not forfeited any games will receive a higher seed compared to a team that has forfeited a game.
5. Goals/ Point Differential: If teams are still tied, subtract the total points allowed by the total points won.
6. Coin Toss: If the two Teams are still tied after all this, there will be a coin toss to determine seeding.
Three Teams Equal Records
1. The team that beats BOTH of the others receives a higher seed (they must have all played against each other).
2. Record versus common teams
3. Refer to the above procedure (Two teams, Equal records) to determine the higher seed.
Teams Play an Unequal Number of Matches & Leagues Which Award Ties in Matches
1. Points are given for Wins (3), Ties (1), and Losses (-1). Teams are seeded according to point totals.
2. Team A wins 4 and loses 1. Their score is 11.
3. Team B wins 4 and loses 2. Their score is 10. Team A gets the higher seed.
4. Teams that play more matches have the chance to score points by winning, but they also have a chance to lose points by losing.
Note: Forfeit games do not receive an S.O.G score.
Spirit of the Game
The joy of competing, the appreciation of an opponent’s skills, social interaction, and stress release are components of a successful Recreational Sports League experience. The Spirit of the Game includes playing within the spirit of the rules, harboring goodwill toward opponents and officials, and accepting responsibility for victories and defeats. Referees and scorekeepers rate each team after every game.
Ways teams can show their spirit:
- They come to the gym with a smile, win or lose. They leave the gym with a smile.
- They greet their opponent, wish them luck, and shake their hand.
- They thank the official for giving it their all.
- If they have a question for the officials, they ask it in a respectful manner and tone: “Can you watch their center? He’s holding me inside.”
- They help the opponent off the floor.
- They don’t use intimidation or trash talk.
- They laugh at their own mistakes.
- They concentrate on the level of the team’s play, not on whether every official’s call is going their way.
- They let the official know if he or she touched the ball when the official couldn’t see it.
- They are more concerned with their opponent's safety than with getting a point or winning.
- They project a positive image in the gym and make officials, opponents, and spectators feel good about the game. It makes them want to return to play again.
