Program Information
Keeping people and buildings safe is our job. The services provided by the Fire and Life Safety Systems Group include design, installation, updates, maintenance, operation, and repair of all building fire alarms, fire extinguishers, and life safety systems on the main campuses as well as many off-site locations affiliated with UCSF.
The UCSF Fire & Life Safety Program manages and oversees all Life Safety Systems and equipment across UCSF’s main campuses and affiliated off-site locations. These systems include Fire Alarm Systems, Fire Sprinklers, Fire Doors, Fire Extinguishers, Emergency Responder Radio Communication Systems (ERRCS), and Area of Refuge Two-Way Communication Systems.
Our team ensures compliance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes, local/state regulations, and Joint Commission Environment of Care Standards required by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). While certain systems are tested and serviced in-house, others are maintained through contractors with oversight from the Fire & Life Safety Program to ensure proper operation and documentation.
