The UCSF Energy Management staff identify and implement energy efficiency projects, manage UCSF’s $35 million annual utilities budget, develop on-site renewable energy projects and provide utility management and energy reporting support for the campus. The team provides technical and energy analysis to support new construction, facilities infrastructure projects and UC sustainability initiatives.
The Energy team works to curb energy usage during periods of low occupancy or during unexpected events such as Covid 19 and extreme weather. In the event of heat waves stressing the electricity grid, UCSF takes proactive measures, such as reducing load and sending power to the grid.
The Energy team works closely with the Office of Sustainability to develop strategies to reduce energy and GHG emissions. Learn how UCSF staff can take action to save energy in laboratories.
