What is Happening
Facilities is working to update the cold rooms to support cutting-edge research at the UCSF Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI).
We're replacing the equipment in all 13 cold rooms, one room at a time, to make them more reliable for research.
Why it Matters
Many of our cold rooms have run on the same equipment for almost 20 years. Some parts are now obsolete or hard to get, which can mean long waits when something breaks.
Newer equipment means fewer breakdowns and quicker repairs when they do happen. This is a partnership with the labs that depend on these rooms. Planning together will help us get through it with as little disruption to your research as possible.
What to Expect
- Work happens on one cold room at a time, about one month per room.
- While your room is offline, we provide temporary freezer storage nearby.
- There are no building reroutes or other closures. Only the room being worked on is affected.
- Engineering monitors the temporary freezers as part of their regular rounds.
