From Kira Stoll, Chief Sustainability Officer and Executive Director of the Office of Sustainability:
Each year, the University Office of the President (UCOP) releases its Annual Sustainability Report, an account of environmental performance from across the UC system. The report includes metrics on greenhouse gas emissions (scopes 1, 2, and 3), energy use intensity, clean power, green buildings, water, waste, transportation, sustainable procurement, food systems, and healthcare sustainability.
2025 marked an important year for progress toward long-term decarbonization planning, including the completion of a comprehensive building energy decarbonization roadmap that charts pathways to a 90% reduction in carbon emissions by 2045.
At UCSF, clean-energy design is already in action at the Bayfront Medical Building, an all-electric, carbon-free facility operating with high-efficiency systems, heat recovery, and water-saving features.

UCSF advanced its Green Labs initiative by increasing participation in the award-winning Freezer Rebate Program and by embracing a green spend initiative that prioritizes purchases with low environmental impact.
These successful sustainability efforts span across the institution, demonstrating the impressive impact of collective environmental stewardship.
