Along with the other University of California Health locations, UCSF is committed to reducing on-site Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by 90% or more by 2045.
The Greenhouse Gas Dashboard is an accumulation of data from the energy, food and nutrition, transportation, and OR sectors at UCSF Health West Bay locations. Scope 1 emissions are direct emissions produced by UCSF Health. Scope 2 emissions are purchased emissions. Scope 3 emissions are indirect emissions. They are not directly produced or purchased by UCSF Health but are a result of UCSF Health activities. (Note: these do not encompass all Scope 3 emissions at UCSF Health but covers the Scope 3 emissions that data is currently available for).
In recognition of the urgency of the climate crisis, the University of California strengthened its Sustainable Practices Policy in 2023 to prioritize direct emissions reductions, limit reliance on carbon offsets, and align with State climate goals. As part of this systemwide effort, UCSF conducted a State-funded Decarbonization Study in 2024 to evaluate the feasibility of reducing on-site Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by 90% or more.
