Part of UCSF Health's efforts towards decarbonization includes green building practices. This dashboard highlights UCSF Health’s electric and carbon free construction, renewable energy production, and LEED certified buildings in the West Bay.
Solar panels have been producing up to 10% of Mission Bay Medical Center's energy use since 2020, and as of 2021 all purchased electricity at UCSF Health owned sites is carbon free. The construction at the Mission Bay outpatient surgery center is all electric and carbon free. The new Bayfront Medical Building at Illinois St, opening in 2024, will be an all-electric and carbon-free surgery center and clinic. Per UC Sustainable Practices Policy, all new construction/renovation projects for UC buildings must achieve LEED Silver ratings but UCSF has established a higher standard of LEED Gold. UCSF Health has 10 West Bay projects that are LEED certified.
