If your apartment is uninhabitable (a UCSF official tells you that you cannot live there), Housing Services will not have a space for you to live. Our properties are fully occupied year-round.
We suggest contacting a friend or family member for emergency options.
You can find temporary housing (like a hotel or extended stay property) at your own expense from our Short-Term Lodging Guide or at an establishment of your choice. Housing Services does not cover these costs, so please contact your Renter’s Insurance to file a claim.
The San Francisco Human Services Agency provides temporary disaster relief support like food, shelter, and basic needs.
While your apartment is uninhabitable, you will not be charged for the space. The monthly housing fee will be credited to you up to the date when your apartment can be reoccupied. Because the extent of damages varies with each disaster, Housing Services is unable to predict how many days or weeks it will take to restore your apartment. We will let you know when it is ready, and billing will recommence on the ready date.
Call your insurance agent. Whether you caused the problem or are the victim of the problem, your insurance agent can help guide you through the next steps. If you need to purchase any emergency items, including food or shelter, save your receipts and invoices. Your agent may need these. Housing Services is not responsible for your damaged personal belongings (computers, clothing, furniture, spoiled food, etc.), so claim damaged items when you contact your insurance agent.
UCSF Risk Management and Insurance Services may contact you regarding the next steps in the process. Visit rmis.ucsf.edu for more information.
