UCSF Transportation provides bicycle storage at various locations, and UCSF Housing also offers limited bicycle storage depending on your residence. All bicycles must be registered with the Transportation Services department. You can register your bike online.
Once you have registered, you will be issued a bicycle permit sticker, which should be displayed on your bicycle at all times. If you do not get a space in the housing complex, you are encouraged to secure indoor bike storage at one of the UCSF Bike Parking Locations. Learn more about other UCSF Bike Parking Locations.

Avenue Housing Parking
To access secure bike parking at Parnassus Heights, simply obtain a free UCSF bike permit online. All you need is valid UC identification. For additional security, registration stickers are required for all bicycles (including children’s bicycles) parked on campus and in Housing enclosures. Upon registering your bike with Transportation, badge access is granted for campus bike enclosures. All bicycle parking policies include micromobility vehicles (scooters, e-scooters, e-bikes, one-wheeled devices, etc).
Aldea San Miguel
Housing is equipped with a limited amount of indoor bicycle storage, accessible on the ground level just off the courtyard next to the laundry room. Each apartment is provided with its own caged area (identified by apartment number) which is approximately 64 cubic feet of storage (4 feet deep, 2 feet wide, 8 feet high). Residents are responsible for supplying their own locks. Please do not store items in contact with the sprinkler heads in this area. Allow a minimum of 18” clearance from the sprinkler head.
Parking racks are also available in and around the community. The UCSF Police Department recommends using a u-lock to secure your bike as cable or chain locks can easily be cut.
Mission Bay Bicycle Parking
Mission Bay Housing is equipped with a limited amount of indoor bicycle storage slots in each of the four buildings. Storage is for Mission Bay Housing Residents and additional occupants only. Assigned slots in Mission Bay Housing bicycle storage are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. No more than two spaces will be issued to an Agreement older. When a space becomes available, Housing Services will contact you by email to offer it to you. If you are interested in the unit, respond to the email (if we do not hear back from you within 7 days of the offer, we will assume that you are no longer interested in bicycle storage). We will then grant your key fob access to the Bike Storage unit. It may take up to 3 days before access is granted.
Other Policies
- Housing Services retains the right to inspect for bike permits, and to remove bikes without permits or to remove bikes that appear to be abandoned. Housing Services does inspections for unpermitted and abandoned bikes at least annually. Unpermitted and abandoned bikes will be removed and given to local charities.
- Bike storage users who knowingly vandalize, damage or steal any other bike or bike part will have their bike room privileges revoked and the victim will be encouraged to file charges against the individual in consort with the University of California.
- Although the door to the bicycle storage remains locked, you are responsible for securing your bike to the wall mount using a locking device. The UC Police Department recommends using a U-Lock, rather than a chain lock, which can be easily cut. Housing Services is not liable for damage or theft to bicycles or equipment.
- These provisions apply to bike storage in secured housing bicycle rooms. If you have further questions, please contact Housing Services at housing@ucsf.edu or (415) 514-4550.
