What do you really do?
I work the front desk here at the Bakar Fitness Center. Greeting folks, making sure that everything flows well, making sure that everyone gets to their classes on time. And that the vibe is good!
What do you like about what you do?
I love being able to greet people. I get told all the time, since I work at 7am, “Wow, you’re always smiling whenever I walk in.” I enjoy interacting with members. You see the same ones every day at the same time, so knowing them by name and checking in if they’ve gone on trips or if I’ve gone on a trip. The interaction gives you a sense of community.

What do you do for fitness?
I work out here. I’m an avid cyclist; I’ve done the AIDS lifecycle two years in a row, which is a pretty intense 545-bike ride from here to LA. I also play in the SF GSL softball league. I’ve been on the same team since 2008. I love Barry’s Bootcamp, and I do Rumble. I just got into F45 working here. I like switching it up!
Years at UCSF?
I started in October 2021, but I was doing contract work with the vaccine clinic. That’s how I met Greg and Aldo, they’re supervisors here (Bakar Fitness Center), and we just clicked.
What did you do before UCSF?
Kyser in Mexico City.
I’ve worked in hospitality for 20+ years. I currently still work at a restaurant in downtown SF, International Smoke. It’s Aisha Curry and Michael Mina’s restaurant. I’ve been there since we opened in 2017.
What’s your favorite thing on the menu?
I love the roasted cauliflower and the black cod, and our ribs are pretty awesome.
What do you do in your free time?
I’m an avid reader. I always have a book in my bag. I just got a new book–my buddy and I switch books–I think this one is called Mates. I usually go for mysteries and thrillers.
I also love to travel. I’m a nervous flyer, but I’ll be the first one to book a flight. I love to see the world.
