In April 2023, UCSF conducted an improvement project in the 2 North Point Building in San Francisco, California. The project replaced old and non-functional fixtures, and implementing an LPC lighting schedule based on timers. These changes resulted in significant energy savings for the building.
Building Background/ Systems
Located at 2001 Embarcadero, 2 North Point is a 119,000 square foot constructed in 2019. The project included replacing the bulbs of multiple types of fixtures, including fluorescent ceiling lights as well as smaller lamps. The facilities team replaced old, dirty, failing light bulbs in order to reduce the electrical expenditure of each respective lighting fixture. The team also upgraded the old control system and replaced it with a new control panel with more user capabilities. One change that came from the control system upgrade was placing the lights on a timed schedule from Monday-Friday from 6:00am to 10:00pm. This reduced the total operating hours from 8,760 to 4,160 per year.
Results
This project The total electrical expenditure was reduced from 186,711kwH per year to 88,666kwH per year, with a total savings of 98,044. That change resulted in 442,933 kWh of energy savings which equates to $86,790 annually.
