Helen Diller Digital Art Installation
"Ten botanical forms, unfurling one after another — the long game of scientific discovery, bloom by bloom."
The "Garden of Hope and Optimism" is a new digital installation from LMNL Studios commissioned by UC San Francisco for the Helen Diller Family Cancer Research Building at Mission Bay.
The installation, which features ten unique blooms, is dedicated to the scientists and researchers of the Helen Diller Family Cancer Research Building, in recognition of their achievements and contributions to the research community and the world.
Artist Statement
"This artwork is not a literal translation of the work that happens in this building — it is an abstract expression of what that work represents: persistence, patience, and the accumulation of small progress toward something much larger.
Across the screen, botanical forms unfurl in continuous, organic procession. Each bloom opens at its own pace, and together they build into a denser, more radiant field — a visual metaphor for the long game of scientific discovery: one experiment at a time, one small breakthrough after another, toward a cure.
We know that the people who work here are rigorous thinkers, not easily moved by metaphor. This piece doesn't ask for that. It simply acknowledges, in its own visual language, that the pursuit happening in this building carries an emotional dimension that data alone doesn't capture — the long game, the collaborative effort, the generational commitment to finding answers."
The garden grows bloom by bloom. So does the science.
