At UCSF Campus Life Services (CLS), Operations is the backbone that helps every CLS unit deliver reliable, customer-centered services to the UCSF community. Three complementary pillars—CLS Admin, Communications, and People & Culture—work in concert to strengthen governance, tell CLS’s story, and cultivate a thriving workplace.
Joanna Trammell is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Executive Director of Campus Life Services (CLS), she serves as a strategic partner to the Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor, overseeing administrative, finance, communications, and human resources functions to ensure efficient delivery of shared services and enhance employee engagement. Joanna brings with her nearly 20 years of experience in the UC system, having held leadership roles such as CAO of the Cardiovascular Research Institute and Pharmaceutical Chemistry at UCSF, Program Manager of Operations, Culture, Engagement, and Diversity at UCOP, and Business and Financial Services Manager at UC Berkeley. She consistently demonstrated success in streamlining processes, reducing redundancies, and improving organizational culture. She also led diversity and engagement initiatives, including a speaker series, gratitude grams, and events celebrating diversity. With expertise in finance, HR, shared services, process improvement, DEIA-AR, and employee satisfaction, Joanna's leadership continues to enhance CLS operations.
Sean Aloise is the Director of Communications which is comprised of Marketing by CLS and Documents and Media. He leads CLS Operations Communications, shaping strategic messaging that connects CLS with the UCSF community. His team manages content strategy and storytelling, digital channels and brand alignment, stakeholder engagement, and timely updates—including change and crisis communications—so audiences receive clear, useful information about CLS services and initiatives.
Shauna Strong is the Director of People and Culture. She leads CLS Operations People & Culture, building an inclusive, performance-driven environment where teams can do their best work. Her team focuses on talent acquisition and onboarding, learning and development, performance and engagement, recognition and wellbeing, and DEI practices aligned with UCSF values.
Together, they align strategy, service, and culture—ensuring CLS Operations is responsive, transparent, and consistently focused on the needs of the UCSF community.
