Recognition in the workplace is a fundamental pillar of fostering employee engagement, motivation, and overall job satisfaction. Acknowledging employees' efforts and achievements validates their contributions and reinforces a positive work culture. Plus, it feels really good!
At CLS, we're committed to constant improvement. This means that this page is a living resource that will grow and thrive as you need it. Ways to Recognize
While there are many ways to recognize someone, start by asking how one likes to be recognized. This creates a tailored experience that considers preferences and comfort levels.

CLS Recognize card.
Hand out and pass on the CLS affirmation cards. These cards are created by CLS for CLS and are a quick way to recognize a colleague on the move. Give one to the shuttle driver or a custodian who works hard to keep your space clean. When you receive one, keep it or pass it on to the next rock star. These cards are available for pick up at the fourth-floor Rutter office. Supervisors can order the cards online through Documents and Media.
See it, Fix it: All CLS staff are now welcome to easily report any maintenance issues in building common areas* to help ensure a better workplace environment. You can submit a report at your fingertips through the SiFi form. The process is quick and designed for you to report issues easily while on the go. Our Facilities maintenance team will address the issue promptly, ensuring our public spaces remain spic and span.
At the end of the month, we'll be holding a raffle to pick plenty of winners who will each receive a $10 gift card. So, be sure to submit your requests through SiFi for a chance to win!
*The SiFi platform is exclusively for reporting maintenance needs in common areas on campus such as hallways, corridors, public restrooms, elevators, and other publicly shared spaces. If you have requests or issues related to your specific department or workspace, please contact MyFS@ucsf.edu.

Recognize.ucsf.edu (MyAccess login required) is a wonderful platform to send virtual cards to anyone with a UCSF email.

Training Opportunities
Training and learning opportunities build new soft and hard skills, therefore allowing for professional growth. Lucky for you UCSF and CLS recognize the benefit of such opportunities through numerous resources and platforms.
- UC Learning Center: this is where you already take the mandatory training such as cyber security and foundations of DEI. Wonderful optional courses include Toolkit for Best Practices in Diversity Recruitment, Personal Emergency Preparedness, and Become a Great Listener. Check out all the courses (MyAccess is required).
- LinkedIn Learning: courses and certifications on business, technology, and creativity. Find your next lesson.
- CLS Development and Training: provides programs and resources on career and professional development to benefit Campus Life Services staff. Craft your career development plan, find a mentor, apply for the Leadership Development Program, or get tuition assistance. See what CLS offers.
