UCSF is making strides in enhancing its shuttle system with a new stop in San Francisco’s vibrant Castro neighborhood, at the intersection of Market and Castro streets.
This expansion is designed to improve commuter convenience, making it easier for UCSF employees, students, and patients to travel between campuses while enjoying all the Castro has to offer.
Bernadette Jimenez, Acting Chief of Staff for UCSF's Transportation Services shared her thoughts on the new stop.
“The addition of the Castro stop directly connects UCSF to a densely populated area with a high concentration of employees. This makes commuting not only more convenient but also more efficient for many of our community members," she said.
The Castro's central location and its well-established transit links offer a unique opportunity to enhance the accessibility of UCSF's shuttle system. By linking to multiple transit options, riders will experience smoother, quicker connections to various parts of the city.
With the Castro stop in place, it's easier for our community to access not just UCSF’s campuses but also the regional transportation network," Jimenez explained. "This is a great way to reduce the need for personal vehicles, easing the burden of parking and helping us be more sustainable.
UCSF Transportation isn’t stopping here.
“We’re excited to consider further expansion opportunities, including a stop at the Embarcadero. This would serve commuters who rely on BART, ferry, and Transbay services,” Jimenez added. "Adding such stops would provide even more options for our community members to move seamlessly between different parts of the Bay Area."
The new Castro stop is part of UCSF's ongoing commitment to improving transportation access and sustainability for its community. Whether you're commuting to work, attending class, or visiting a loved one, UCSF's expanded shuttle system aims to provide a more efficient and comfortable transit experience.
