We heard you! In response to commuter feedback in the recent Annual Commute Survey, Campus Life Services Transportation and Facilities Services are teaming up to upgrade and expand EV stations across UCSF garages. Faster, more accessible chargers are on the way, making it easier to power up. Plus, new stations at the Mission Bay Shuttle Yard and Oyster Point are fueling our electric shuttles and fleet vehicles, driving UCSF even closer toward a zero-carbon future.
New EV chargers are being installed at the Illinois Street Garage, Sutter Parking Garage, and Millberry Union Garage, with completion expected between December 2024 and February 2025. Our team is currently focused on permitting and design revisions to ensure all construction meets ADA accessibility standards, making these stations accessible to everyone. Here's a breakdown of the ongoing projects:
Open to the Community
- Illinois Street Garage, Mission Bay: Six new dual-level EV stations are set for completion in December 2024, increasing capacity to charge 12 vehicles, alongside 21 existing ports for a total of 33 charging stations!
- Sutter Parking Garage, Mount Zion: Three EV stations will be replaced, with completion expected in February 2025, allowing for simultaneous charging of 6 vehicles.
- Millberry Union Garage, Parnassus Heights: Five EV stations will be replaced with single and dual charging stations, increasing charging capacity to 6 vehicles. Expected completion in January 2025.

UCSF Shuttle and Internal Fleet
- Mission Bay Shuttle Yard (Block 18): One EV station was added on September 10, to power a new 35-foot electric shuttle—the largest in our fleet. “We're adding larger 50-passenger buses to our shuttle fleet to better serve busy routes like the Gold and Blue lines, especially during peak afternoon hours,” says Erik Zhanduis, Director of Transit.
- Oyster Point Garage: Fourteen charging outlets will be added specifically to support UCSF fleet vehicles that transport equipment and materials to the campuses. Melvin Maxwell, Executive Director of Supply Chain Management-Logistics at UCSF deemed this "another electrification journey milestone reached for UCSF Logistics!"
We appreciate your feedback on our commuter needs at the University and are excited to implement changes that will provide more and faster EV charging stations while promoting a cleaner future.
