Steve Dozier has dedicated over four decades to professional driving, bringing a wealth of experience and a heart full of compassion to his role at UCSF Transportation.
Beginning his career with UPS in 1982, he spent 20 years with FedEx Ground, followed by stints at SuperShuttle and Bauer’s Transportation.
For the past seven years, Dozier has been an integral part of UCSF Transportation, primarily operating the Jitney route between the Family House and the Children’s Hospital.
The most rewarding part of my job is witnessing the transformation in parents after their child's successful surgery,” Dozier shared. “You can see the life return to them. It's powerful.
Balancing work and personal life is paramount for Dozier, with his wife being his top priority. Together, they enjoy fine dining, wine tasting, and dedicate their weekends to ministry work. He believes in the importance of quality over quantity when it comes to personal time.
Safety is a non-negotiable aspect of his role.
“There have been studies that show driving faster doesn’t translate to reaching your destination sooner, especially in city traffic,” Dozier explained. “When I’m running late, I always prioritize safety, not the timing of the route.”
As he approaches retirement, he reflects on his contributions with gratitude:
It's meaningful to know I've made a small impact on the UCSF community.
