We are pleased to share the following updates that continue to enhance our service to you.
No More Gates, Fewer Delays
Effective October 16, UCSF Transportation will be converting the following parking garages into a gateless system: the Community Center Garage and the 3rd Street Garage at Mission Bay, and the Mt. Zion Garage at 2420 Sutter Street.
Customers will no longer be required to pull a ticket upon entry or wait in line to pay a cashier to exit the parking facility. The reduction in congestion will minimize vehicle queuing which will save time and increase sustainability.
Ways to Pay Effective October 16
Parking customers will have two ways to pay: (1) the PayByPhone app or website, or (2) on-site pay stations.
- Customers will pay parking fees using their license plate number.
- Customers will pay parking fees when they arrive – not as they are exiting.
- If you paid at another UCSF facility and then parked at one of these garages on the same day, you do not need to pay if the paid time has not expired. Monthly permits allow parking at all UCSF facilities.
- Employee discounted rate will only be available using the PaybyPhone App location code 401608.
- Student discounted rate will only be available using the PaybyPhone App location code 401622.
Additional PayByPhone information and location numbers are available on the How to Pay for Parking page.
Our dedicated team of parking representatives will be available to answer questions and assist customers as we work through this exciting transition.
ID Badge Scanners on Shuttles
Also, effective Monday, October 16: UCSF shuttles will be equipped with ID badge scanners. All UCSF employees, faculty, and learners are required to tap their UCSF or ZSFG ID badge when boarding a shuttle.
Patients and visitors are welcome to board, and no badge scanning or proof of appointment is required.
This new practice, already in place at most transit agencies, will help us in many ways:
- Collect accurate ridership data by stop location, necessary for assigning the right-size shuttle and determining frequency and schedules that best meet rider needs.
- Discourage non-UCSF employees from riding our shuttles, taking seats away from eligible UCSF riders.
Look for a small, blue-color scanner on the right side as you board. We kindly request that you board at the front door on our All-Electric BYD buses. Do not board from the rear door.
The system will only verify the rider’s eligibility to ride UCSF shuttles. No personal data identifying the rider is collected.
