What do you really do at CLS?
Schlep stuff, ha, ha, ha! Ok, but seriously, my primary responsibility is to administer the retail leases on campus to provide convenience services to the UCSF community like dining, shopping, and banking.
How long have you worked at UCSF?
I started part-time Child Care in 1997 in a work-study position while a college student. I eventually worked full-time as an asst. teacher, and then as the office assistant. I transitioned to “Vendor Services” in 2000, and the rest is history!

What is your favorite part of the job?
By far, the people! I enjoy working with a diverse group of colleagues and retail tenants, and the fact that every day is different. Some days I am in meetings/zooms all day and looking at leases and spreadsheets, or meeting with the retail tenants to discuss operations, or removing an old cling from a storefront, and some days I’m at Costco getting 50 hot dogs for a Giants Game!
(Editor's note: See Tamara getting to know our summer high school intern, Arleth.)
What advice would you give to someone just starting out at UCSF?
Go out and meet people! As someone that works on site, I spend more time at work than I do at home. I think it’s important to get to know the people you work with to build strong relationships and trust. Not only do good working relationships make you more effective at work, I believe it also makes you happier! I look forward to seeing my colleagues, hearing about what they’re working on, listening to funny stories about their kiddos, or getting the scoop on the latest gossip on Bravo!
Where did you grow up?
San Francisco native baby!
What do you do for yourself when you're not working?
Take walks in my neighborhood, and listen to music, and pet lots of dogs along the way!
Anything else you'd like your colleagues to know about you?
I appreciate having a great group of people to work with, and value the fact that when I need help, there are many hands always available to come to the rescue! It makes daunting tasks way more feasible for sure.
