From their humble beginnings in California’s state capital in 1933, Golden 1 Credit Union has always embraced the philosophy of “people helping people.” That philosophy and service extends to Golden 1’s support of UCSF employees. The Credit Union serves anyone who lives or works in California. This means that UCSF employees can access Golden 1’s free mobile and online banking services, 30,000 fee-free ATMs nationwide, and the Credit Union’s online Financial Wellness Center, which provides a suite of tools, learning lab modules, and resources to help Californians learn about personal finance.
“Since day one, Golden 1 members and the communities we serve has been at the heart of our organization,” said Erica Taylor, Senior Vice President of Community Impact and Public Relations Officer at Golden 1 Credit Union. “Our current Corporate Giving Program supports community and student food banks, funds youth education and development, and advances social and financial equity. Throughout the past decade, we have supported hundreds of nonprofits and organizations. We are a member-focused and caring credit union committed to enhancing the financial well-being of our members and diverse communities.”
Golden 1 members can receive personalized investment strategies to help them meet their financial goals. “Whether your financial goals include planning for the future such as pursuing a graduate degree, tax efficient investing, or charitable giving, Golden 1 provides a wealth of resources and support,” she said. “Members can work one-on-one with an advisor or utilize our self-guided investing platform. Members can find an advisor online or set up a free, no obligation, consultation.”
Golden 1 also provides professional advice on home loans. “Whether you’re interested in buying your first home or looking to refinance, Golden 1 Home Loans is available to discuss our cost-saving home loan opportunities and available options including our first-time homebuyer programs,” Taylor said. “We offer competitive interest rates, fixed and adjustable-rate loans, low down payment options, and jumbo loans for purchasing higher value properties. This commitment to members was nationally recognized when Golden 1 was named to Fast Company's 2023 list of Brands That Matter. “This recognition highlights our purpose-driven commitment and community engagement in California, by placing Golden 1 among 165 distinguished companies and nonprofits renowned for their cultural relevance and impact,” Taylor said.
Fast Company editors judged each brand on relevancy, cultural impact, ingenuity, and business impact to compile the list. “As one of only three honorees in the finance category and the sole credit union acknowledged, we are proud to exemplify a brand commitment that resonates with people, all while contributing positively to California’s communities,” Taylor said.
Golden 1’s dedication to serving Californians and fostering financial inclusion remains unwavering. “This recognition is an acknowledgement of our ongoing efforts to further our mission of financial empowerment and social impact to all California communities,” she said.
