Housing Services just added three more Luxer One smart locker units to the Mission Bay Housing mailroom.
This is a big deal for the over 1,300 residents who make use of the complimentary locker service to track and receive their packages at Mission Bay Housing.
The Luxer One smart lockers allow carriers to scan packages and place them in a secure locker for residents to pick up at their convenience. Residents then receive real-time notifications when packages are delivered and can securely access them by scanning a code in the app on their phone.
Deliveries are placed into lockers with delivery codes that are unique to each courier service.
In any given month, Mission Bay Housing receives between 2,500 and 4,000 packages delivered to the lockers, not including oversized packages.
The Housing team expects that expanding current locker capacity will improve the user experience for housing residents.
“Packages will be more secure with the addition of these lockers, giving us significantly more secure storage capacity and reducing the number of packages left out in the open.” Laura Eisenberg, Housing administration manager, said.
Laura Eisenberg scans and places a package it it's designated Luxer One smart locker.
From retail therapy to the everyday essentials, we wanted to make sure our residents get their packages safely and securely.
Eileen Tsai visits the Luxer smart lockers to pick up a package.
Eileen Tsai, an Emergency Medicine Resident who lives at Mission Bay Housing, likes the lockers and finds they make it more straightforward to locate packages.
It’s been a really good experience. I know when I get a package, it’s easy to find. It's an easy system to use 24/7.
Going the Extra Mile
Henry Holmes conducts an audit.
To manage the high volume of deliveries, the Housing team works behind the scenes to ensure the lockers are operational and the package room remains clean and organized.
“We do audits twice a week, so we fix it if the package gets misdelivered. We investigate if someone can't find their packages,” Eisenberg said, “We clean it up daily, Monday through Friday. We do continuous improvement, and Luxer is always trying to improve."

Henry Holmes, the customer and mail services assistant at Housing, helps organize the oversized packages and put away any packages left on the ground by carriers, a huge feat during high-volume months like December.
“From June 2025 to June 2026, Henry put away over 6,000 packages left on the ground or in the lobbies by carriers into Luxer!” Eisenberg said.
Holmes also goes the extra mile to identify misdelivered packages to Mission Bay Housing and bring them to their intended destination.

I have a sense of justice when it comes to packages.
"I have a sense of justice when it comes to packages because I know how often [misdelivered packages] go missing, so if I see it and it’s a building that’s not too far, I’m like, ‘You know what? I’m going on a journey,’ Holmes said.
The new lockers are already having an impact on Holmes, as he’s finding that fewer packages are being left outside of the lockers.
“The packages fit nicely in the new lockers, especially with the sizes we got,” Holmes says.

Eisenberg credits the Facilities Services team, including Mario Quijano, project manager, Jeimy Loyola, associate project manager, and Edward To, senior project manager, for successfully coordinating the installation of the new locker units in just over a day.
“They did the facilities part, the removal of the cage, the installation, and they made sure that these lockers are earthquake-proof. There is a lot that went into it that I wasn’t even aware of,” Eisenberg said.
Eisenberg also wanted to give special kudos to her team for putting in extra work to field packages during the installation.
“When we had to close this room for a day, they had to sit in the lobby and get packages there while they installed all the lockers.”
Thanks to the Facilities and Housing team, residents can now enjoy an enhanced package delivery experience.
