The historic Millberry Union at the UC San Francisco Parnassus Heights Campus will soon receive a fresh coat of exterior paint.
“We're not sure exactly when the entire building was last painted,” said UCSF Facilities Services Director of Infrastructure Programs, Bernadette Jimenez. “We do know it’s been a while.”
Anyone visiting the UCSF Parnassus Heights Campus over the next four to six weeks will see a mix of scaffolding and swing stages being erected as workers prepare the building for the project.
“Once power washing begins, building occupants may notice some leaky windows," Jimenez said. Facilities Services has a list of traditionally leaky windows and has been busy sealing them prior to the project beginning.
“I’m most excited about the joy this project will bring to our community and the cohesiveness it will bring to the campus in alignment with the new and improved CSB,” Jimenez said.
The most difficult aspect of the project is gauging the impact the construction phase will have on the UCSF community, said Jimenez. “We are waiting on the logistics plan from the contractor but we expect to begin the project at the east tower and move to the west.”
As part of the project, a protective coating will be applied that will seal the building from water damage. The coating comes with a 10-year warranty. Also included is 100 linear feet of window seal replacements and repairs to the building façade.
To match the refreshed exterior, Facilities Services is also spiffing up the interior common space, Jimenez said.
