Working in partnership with the university community, Facilities Services is providing free menstrual products in common restrooms around UCSF.
On Oct. 8, 2022, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 367 requiring public schools, colleges and higher education institutions to stock menstrual products free of charge and to post designated notices. In response, Facilities Services worked with the university community to form a committee and develop a plan to meet the new law.
“The custodial team is placing baskets with menstrual products in designated restrooms throughout campus,” said Associate Director of Facilities Services, Felipe Rubio.
Signage in each building will indicate which restrooms contain menstrual products. These signs will be locatable throughout the digital sign displays and in restrooms that do not have menstrual products so students can easily access a restroom that has the products instead. Product placement is primarily in student-centric locations in public-community spaces in buildings with high traffic areas.
A complete list of restrooms that contain menstrual products can be found on the Facilities Services website and the UCSF Mobile app also provides a complete list of restrooms that stock feminine hygiene products.
