What date (approximately) did you start working at Facilities?
I’ve been with UCSF since 2009, but with Facilities Services (FS) since May 2015. I have worked as the Emergency Preparedness & Safety Program Manager for a year and worked previously as the Emergency Preparedness & Safety Coordinator from May 2015 to May 2024.
Looking back, what are some moments that stand out to you over the last ten years?
How awesome the FS family is. I am so proud to say FS can respond to any emergency at any time. We respond to anything from floods, fires, autoclave explosions, poor air quality, winter storms, and COVID. FS had 40+ staff who have served on the UCSF Emergency Operations Center during COVID-19. I love our great collaboration and friends in UCPD, EH&S, and EEM (Enterprise Emergency Management).
What are you most proud of accomplishing in your time at UCSF?
I’ve served as a CLS Safety Committee Member since 2015 and have participated in various development programs, including the CLS Leadership Development Program, the CLS Mentorship Program, and the FAS Restorative Justice ‘Train the Trainer’. I was also in the OG group of the COE, now in its 10th year.
I’ve coordinated several projects at Facilities Services, including monthly RCAs for all emergencies, annual safety shoe program, emergency preparedness tabletop (TTX) exercises with Facilities Services grounds/landscape, Facilities Managers, engineers, and supervisors.

I’ve supported the onboarding for ZSFGH Pride Hall Emergency Preparedness and helped with the onboarding of the entire new Enterprise Emergency Management team. In total, I have trained over 40+ FS staff with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
I also designed an FS Emergency Incident Notification Tool from scratch in 2015. I’m excited to announce the purchase of a new FS Incident Notification Tool that I am designing and piloting to go live in 2025.
I’m proud to have received the Facilities Services Achievement Award in 2020 and the Facilities Services Super Spot Award in 2021 and 2023.
What is 'Everybody Happy Hour', and how did you come up with that idea?
During COVID, we started the FS happy hour sessions. We try to rotate it between Parnassus Heights and Mission Bay. The goal is to get people outside the office to collaborate. You are more likely to help a friend/colleague out if you get to know them outside the office. I am all about engagement and getting people out of their office routine to get to know your colleagues. Over time, our happy hours have expanded to any who wants to come (even non-UCSF people, you just need to pay for your own drinks).
What are you working on now that you feel excited about?
I am also working to promote more engagement activities for all FS employees at all our sites. So, if other departments have events that they want our FS staff to attend, feel free to email me this info to promote engagement at UCSF. I also feel excited about expanding my/FS support for the new enterprise emergency management (EEM) team.
I am working on upgrading our Facilities Services response to emergencies with a new internal incident notification tool to allow our FS leadership to be aware of emergency situations in real-time.
We are working on our continued support for the EEM’s new enterprise-wide business continuity program. I will be working on more emergency preparedness workshops for our CLS partners in 2025.
