It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the sudden passing of our beloved colleague, David Ramirez, who left us on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. David was a valued member of the CBRE controls team, who supported the Engineering & Utilities unit within Facilities Services. His absence is deeply felt across our community.
Since joining us in July 2019, David was more than a skilled controls engineer—he was a friend, mentor, and source of inspiration to many. His warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his work made him a cherished member of our team. David had a unique ability to connect with people on a personal level, reflecting his genuine care for others.
David lived his life with balance, purpose, and a genuine appreciation for the simple things. His colleague, Jehrel, fondly recalls David’s favorite saying, "Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast," a reminder to savor life’s moments. David embodied the principle of "Work to live, not live to work," always prioritizing meaningful relationships over the daily grind. He was a compassionate listener who was always there to offer support and provide encouragement to those in need.
Outside of work, David was a devoted father to a 7-month-old daughter, and his role extended far beyond that. He was also a cherished brother, son, cousin, and uncle. He played a crucial role in the family, sharing his experiences and lessons with his nieces and nephews. His life was remarkable, brimming with laughter and love. He had a deep passion for exploring on his motorcycle and enjoyed spirited drives through the mountains with his friends.
During this difficult time, our thoughts are with David’s family. We respect their need for privacy and will share any updates on funeral or memorial services as they become available. Our hearts go out to all who worked closely with David and are mourning his loss. We extend our deepest sympathy and support to everyone affected by this tragedy.
David Ramirez made a lasting impact on UCSF, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed.
A rosary will take place this evening at 6:00 PM at Crippen & Flynn Chapel in Redwood City, followed by the church service and burial tomorrow starting at 11:00 AM at Saint Anthony’s Church and Holy Cross Cemetery in Menlo Park.
We'd also like to remind our CLS community that the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) provides free and confidential grief counseling for all UCSF staff and faculty. For more information on how FSAP may help you or your team, please go online to the FSAP website. Grief support is also available through UCSF Health’s Spiritual Care Services.
