Tracey Long, Senior Project Manager, Print and Design, is the project manager on the UCSF Documents and Media (DM) side for the UC Cyber Risk Program Annual Report project, meaning that she hires the players, manages purchase orders and invoicing, generates quotes, tracks budgets, and keeps the project database and archives up to date. Though her background is in business, photography, design and printing, her best skill is knowing the creative people to pull together on a project.
Five years ago, Wendy Rager, Cyber-risk Coordination Center (C3) Manager, and Tracey Long connected to improve the report’s production process of the report. As project manager, Long brought on The Studio designer, Ellen Sherrod, at this time. The result was a beautiful report that told the story of cybersecurity initiatives and stories across UC. And, they’ve only gotten better over the years. Read more about this partnership in this past article in on the UCSF CLS news webpage.
Highlighting UC Stories
The 2023 UC Cyber Risk Program Annual Report, produced as a written report and as an online PDF, has just been published. The report offers a holistic view of the tools, methods, and collaborative efforts being leveraged at UC to create a cohesive and unified safe cyber environment. It also accomplishes a few important functions:
- It highlights cybersecurity stories and successes from across the UC system over the past year. The report covers how UC Berkeley and UC San Diego are sharing best practices around policy implementation, how phishing simulations at UCLA Health were improved to provide greater learning opportunities, and how tabletop exercises tackled executive communication during a simulated, but realistic, cyber incident.
- It shines a light on the several ways UC has been nurturing a diverse and informed workforce with efforts such as the internship program, the UC Tech Academy: Cyber Leadership Program, and the Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS) strategic partnership. These programs are strengthening UC as an employer, as a state-wide educational system, and as customer-facing medical centers.
"I'm proud that the 2023 Annual Report showcases UC's progress in managing and reducing cyber risk across all campuses, health centers, and labs," said Rager. "Cybersecurity can be complex, but by sharing these stories, we can humanize the challenges and solutions.”
The Benefits of Collaboration
The collaboration between The Studio at Documents and Media and the Cyber-risk Coordination Center is a win-win for both UC departments. The arrangement helps keep funds within UC, and Documents and Media can leverage the internal recharge billing process for both UC San Francisco customers and for other UC clients. That way, clients like C3 don’t have to go out for bids or produce scope of work documents and are ensured that they are working with experts in the UC brand guidelines.
