Last week, 200 people gathered at Parnassus Heights for a momentous event to break ground for the new UCSF Health Helen Diller Hospital.
We, the keepers of history by way of print materials and not throwing anything out, found a centennial campus guide and a map from 1968. The guide walks the reader through the three schools: medicine, dentistry, and nursing. School of Pharmacy was founded four years later.
What else might strike the present-day reader is the absence of the library and the School of Dentistry buildings. And what we now know as Milberry Union, the one that houses the food emporium, the fitness center, and administrative offices, in 1968 was a literal house, so to speak. It was a dorm!
We're excited for what the future holds and for the new opportunities to support you. Maybe in the year 2124, a future version of this newsletter will show the campus as we know it, and the future generation will gawk and zoom-in to see what it was like, pre-UCSF Health Helen Diller Hospital.
Flip through the guide.
