Last month, we shared an observation - reams of quality paper were sitting idle in empty offices, followed by a request - if you're not going to use it, we'll take it and put it to good use. What happened next warms our hearts as we look out at the community of amazing people around us.
We picked up or you dropped off:
- 20,000 sheets of 20# regular paper - 8.5 x 11 - 30% Post-Consumer Waste
- 27,000 sheets of 20# regular 3-hole punched paper - 8.5 x 11 - 30% Post-Consumer Waste
- 3,000 sheets of 20# pink - 8.5 x 11
- 25,000 sheets of 20# white paper - 8.5 x 14 - 30% PCW Post-Consumer Waste
To put it in another perspective these 75,000 sheets of paper weigh 750lbs. Eventually, it could have been recycled, which is better than landfill, but not as good as using the paper as intended.
In addition, we received a few reams of 8.5 x 14 legal-sized paper, which is an uncommon size for us to put to good use. Typically, this is the size that admin staff would use to print Excel spreadsheets in legible font size. Since we don’t print many spreadsheets, we trimmed down the paper 3 inches to make it a standard 8.5 x 11 sheet size. And we can still use the leftover trimmings for scratchpads.
Unlike the 750lbs of paper you gave us, we are blown away by the generosity, responsiveness, and sustainability focus of this community.
Documents and Media collected 750lbs of paper that wasn't being used.
