What do you really do at CLS?
Annika at Arts and Events' first birthday.
I have a lot of fun with my teammates because I work with some of the most interesting, dynamic, and just full-of-energy characters and people. So genuinely, we have so much fun on a day-to-day basis.
I do a lot of brainstorming with my team, thinking of ways that we can bring the community together. Yeah, just coming up with the craziest, most fun event ideas we can.
How long have you worked at UCSF
Only 8 months! I started on December 4, 2024.
What is your favorite part of the job?
I think my favorite part would be either my team and just like the people I get to work with and learn from or how creative this role is and how much freedom I sometimes have to just truly create a concept and make it happen from start to finish. That’s a very rare opportunity.
She's also an avid pickle ball player.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out at UCSF?
Be patient with yourself. I know it can feel super overwhelming to work within such a large institution. Give yourself grace. It might take a while to establish yourself or get to know the ins and outs. I definitely still have a lot to learn.
Also, take advantage of the resources that we have as UCSF employees. That’s something that I’ve never experienced before. There are so many trainings and resources that we have access to, and ways to develop your professional identity.
Editor's note: Find training opportunities on the CLS Development and Training page.
What do you do for yourself when you're not working, in addition to attending Outside Lands? (Prior to the interview, Annika shared she attended Outside Lands 2024)
I play soccer, crochet, and like to explore SF. Because I still feel like a newbie (she grew up in Portland, OR), even though it’s almost been 2.5 years. I like to hang out with friends, sit in parks, eat, go thrifting, and watch TV shows.
